BREAKING NEWS Dr. Matyas receives $470,000
NSF CAREER Award: Funding available for PhD students and computer
programmers Dr. Corene Matyas is seeking PhD students to fund as research assistants through her CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation. The project is titled “Geospatial Modeling of Tropical Cyclones to Improve the Understanding of Rainfall Patterns.” Desired qualifications include a background in atmospheric science, experience in spatial modeling using ArcGIS, and programming skills to analyze large datasets. Students with any of these qualifications are encouraged to apply to the graduate program in the Department of Geography by January 15, 2012 to begin studies in the Fall 2012 semester. Beginning this fall (2011), Dr. Matyas will hire a computer programmer with experience in a Linux environment, proficiency in Python, Java, and/or experience with scripting with ArcGIS. This position is available for the 2011-2012 academic year and is open to graduate or undergraduate students through OPS.
