In My Own Words

During my years at the University of Florida I have been fortunate not only to reach the plenitude of my career but also to help guide the department in a new direction. The valuable support, trust and encouragement of two remarkable deans during the 1980s and 1990s provided me the opportunity to contribute with challenging activities in the College and the Department. Of a particularly rewarding nature were also the interactions with UF’s outstanding Center of Latin American Studies.

The stimulating presence of several faculty members helped me to pursue my research interests with great determination and enthusiasm. This enthusiasm proved contagious to numerous doctoral and master candidates who shared a passion for Latin America, Political Geography, and the multiple facets of El Niño.

During the last years, my excursions into the interface between Geography and Literature have expanded to include the musical representation of geographical phenomena in what heralds an intriguing final chapter of a career that has been most fulfilling and satisfying.
