In recognition of the importance of water issues and the need to address them in
a new interdisciplinary manner, the University of Florida (UF) established a
campus-wide interdisciplinary Water Institute in May 2006. The Florida Climate Institute (FCI), is a multi-disciplinary network of
national and international research and public organizations, scientists, and
individuals concerned with achieving a better understanding of climate
variability and change. The FCI was initially founded in 2010 by the University of Florida and the
Florida State University and is supported by the two Universities' Affiliated Colleges, Centers and Programs. New
and re-emerging diseases threaten Florida's tourism, health and
economy, which are particularly vulnerable due to the state's mild
climate and diverse agriculture. Weather patterns, commercial plant
imports, and annual global visitors all have the potential to
unsuspectingly carry pathogens from other countries into our state. The
Emerging Pathogens Institute fuses key disciplines to develop research,
education, and outreach capabilities designed to preserve Florida's
health and economy, and to prevent or contain new and re-emerging
diseases. The Center for African Studies is in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at the University of Florida. As a National Resource Center for African Studies, our mission is
to promote excellence in teaching and research on Africa in all the disciplines
at the University of Florida. The Center also disseminates knowledge about
Africa to the wider community through an integrated outreach program to schools,
colleges, community groups, and businesses. The Center’s mission is to advance knowledge about Latin America and the
Caribbean and its peoples throughout the Hemisphere, and to enhance the scope
and quality of research, teaching, and outreach in Latin American, Caribbean and
Latino Studies at the University of Florida. Faculty members and students are also connected with many outside institutions:
